Alvarez 1965 Series Parlor Guitar

In celebration of their 50th Anniversary, Alvarez is launching the 1965 Series of acoustic guitars, instruments that exemplify the company’s five decades worth of building experience. In celebration of their 50th Anniversary, Alvarez is launching the 1965 Series of acoustic guitars, instruments that exemplify the company’s five decades worth of building and production experience. The series feature solid-top guitars that cover all popular shapes, and obviously the 1965 Parlor guitar is of particular interest.

Unlike other commemorative guitars that are usually limited in production and come with expensive price tags, the Alvarez 1965 Series are meant to be as accessible as their other offerings. The only difference being the occasion that it was built for and aesthetic distinction.

Senior VP of St. Louis Music and Head of Development at Alvarez Chris Mikle confirms this and says, “We want every guitarist and Alvarez enthusiast to be able to join us in this 50 year celebration. Very often commemorative guitars are so expensive that they’re out of reach to the everyday player. Our goal with the 1965s was to create a line with beautiful appointments and tone, but make them as accessible as possible.”

Although not much information has been provided for the particulars of each guitar, the company said that the 1965 Series will all feature North American solid Sitka spruce tops. Another common feature of this new product line is the use of Acacia wood for the back and sides.

To make this commemorative guitars special, Alvarez upped the aesthetics by adding Paua Abalone purfling to all models. These are said to be handcrafted to replicate the feel and look of ’60s era acoustic guitars. Finally, the guitars will all come with a vintage style Shadowburst finish, which to my eyes look genuinely earthy and would definitely look great on a parlor sized instrument.

The Alvarez 1965 Series is comprised of guitars with various shapes, including the Standard and Slope Shoulder Dreadnought, the OM and finally the Parlor. For a special anniversary release, the 1965 Series has a modest MSRP of $749.
