Washburn R360K Parlor Resonator

The Washburn R360K Parlor Resonator gives you authentic dobro style sounds in a portable and couch friendly package. It exemplifies the versatility of the parlor guitar shape, that it can be used applied to various guitar configurations, including resonators. And since it is crafted by Washburn, this parlor resonator hybrid does not compromise cosmetics, while retaining a budget friendly price tag.

The back and sides are crafted from trembesi, while the top is made from solid spruce supported by quarter sawn scalloped sitka spruce bracing. Trembesi is known in the U.S. as monkey pod or rain tree, it has a warm and slightly dark tone that’s site between the characteristics of mahogany or korina.

The R360K’s solid spruce top complements the dark tone, resulting in a full-range sound that works well with traditional instrumental dobro style music or for vocal accompaniment. Installed on the top is a biscuit resonator, which gives the R360K more punch while retaining a slight twang.

This combination produces a sound comparable in tonality to its regular sized counterparts. The natural midrange emphasis of a parlor style body is a great complement for the trebly tone of resonators, as such this interesting combination will result in a piercing tone that can easily cut through a mix.

And it’s not just about the sound because Washburn knows how to make a vintage style guitar look good. This one resembles the handcrafted parlor guitars from the early 20th century, complete with vintage style finish, well implemented stylized f-holes near the neck joint and classic top and bottom bindings.

The neck is crafted from mahogany and features a two way truss rod for modern reliability and adjustments. It is topped by a rosewood fingerboard with a scale length of 24.75″, similar to regular sized electric guitars, which means that minimal playing adjustments is needed to get familiar with this instrument. The bone nut is 1.89″ wide while Fancy 1890’s style inlays serve as fret markers. More importantly, the R360K Parlor Resonator comes with a slotted headstock that completes its overall old school appeal.

Finally, the hardware on this guitar is finished in distressed bronze, further complementing the instrument’s elegant and eye catching appeal. The end result being a great looking instrument that will not look out of place in any living room, in fact it can double as a nice furniture when not being used. And since this one is crafted by Washburn you can be assured of reliability and build quality.

The Washburn R360K Parlor Resonator is currently retailing for just under $600.
