If you've watched Canadian astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield's Space Oddity music video, then you have seen the P-09 floating around the International Space Station. Because of its compact size and Canadian roots, Chris chose this guitar among the many available to take into space. It allowed him to keep his chops up in zero gravity, while commanding his home away from home, the international space station.

This NASA approved guitar helped launch the Larrivee brand into world wide popularity, and as a result has a become one of the most popular guitars from the brand. Thankfully, you don't need to go to space to get your hands on this parlor, all you need is to save up for the less than $1.6K price tag and you have for yourself a true space worthy guitar.

Being part of the Rosewood Select Series, this guitar comes with premium all-solid wood construction. It sports solid Indian rosewood back & sides, which form the guitar's parlor style shape. The top of the guitar is crafted from solid Canadian Sitka spruce, and supported by the company's symmetrical bracing. This traditional tonewood combination gives this parlor guitar a balanced tone that's more akin to bigger acoustics than vintage parlors.

To ensure that the neck will not break during lift-off to space, the P-09 is equipped with a one piece mahogany neck, which joins the body at the 12th fret. For easy playability in zero gravity and in earth gravity, the guitar comes with a short 24" scale length, and a thin 1.75" nut width. Both the bridge, fingerboard and headplate are crafted from ebony. Finally the dovetail neck joint are hand fit to ensure stability and action consistency. Other hardware include bone nut and bone compensated saddle.

Premium cosmetic appointments include Canadian maple multi-strip body binding, abalone rosette, pearl logo with sterling silver border, chrome tuners (18:1 Ratio), ivoroid fretboard binding, and the Larrivee custom beveled pickguard.

The Larrivee P-09 Rosewood Select Series parlor is currently retailing for $1,567.50. You can head over to Larrivee for further details.
