Fender Paramount PM-2 Deluxe Parlor

The Fender Paramount PM-2 Deluxe Parlor is the company's flagship parlor guitar model, featuring all-solid wood body construction, built-in Fishman electronics, vintage style aesthetics and lots of visual embellishments.

There's no stopping the resurgence of parlor guitars, as evidenced by multiple guitar manufacturers releasing new small body models just within the first part of this year. This one is from Fender's recently released Paramount Series of acoustic guitars, all of which feature traditional designs. It would have been better if they used a slotted headstock design on this particular model, but I can't complain because at least they did not use their awkward Strat-style acoustic headstocks!

According to the company, the design of this parlor guitar follows after classic elements of acoustics released in the '60s. As such it comes packed with elegant aesthetic elements that include the abalone and mother-of-pearl "Concert Tone" fingerboard inlays, checkerboard purfling and rosette, and an old school style 1-ply tortoiseshell pickguard.

It does not end with just visual appeal because Fender utilized solid tonewood for the body. Following tried and tested acoustic guitar building formula, the top is crafted from solid sitka spruce, and it is supported by quartersawn scalloped "X"-braces. The back and sides are crafted from equally premium materials, solid East Indian rosewood, complementing the solid spruce top to give the instrument what Fender describes as a "freely vibrating and resonant tone".

The PM-2 Deluxe Parlor's neck follows a modern "C" shape profile, crafted from mahogany. The fingerboard is made from ebony, and has a shorter scale length of 24.75". Nut width is quite narrow at 1.75" while the fingerboard radius is 15.75". It has a total of 19 frets, with the neck joining the body at the 12th fret. The headstock design follows after '40s era traditional designs.

Serving as a good contrast to its classic appeal, the Fender Paramount PM-2 Deluxe Parlor is equipped with new Fishman designed PM preamp systems. These are specifically tweaked to match Fender's new Paramount line of acoustics, and each one are specifically voiced to match the shape of the instrument. This means that this parlor guitar will not try to sound like a full-size acoustic when plugged-in, rather it will have the expected mid-range emphasis and gnarl, staying true to the blues box tone. You can adjust the overall volume, and shape the sound via the bass and treble controls. There's also a nifty tuner built-into the controls and there's also a phase control for avoiding feedback.

Other features include bone nut and saddle, ebony bridge, nickel tuners with aged black buttons, and factory-mounted forward strap holders. The Fender Paramount PM-2 Delux Parlor is currently retailing for just under $1000, and it ships with a hardshell case and a humidifier. Visit Fender for more information.
