Alvarez has another cool looking parlor guitar up their sleeves, the AP66SB, this one sports an-all mahogany body and vintage sunburst finish. It is part of their popular Artist Series of instruments, and specifically follows their ’66 era vintage style designs.
Common to all Alvarez ’66 models is the use of deep glass-like shiny finish, which aesthetically complements the guitar’s solid mahogany top and mahogany body of the guitar. Other aesthetic features include scalloped abalone & mother of pearl inlays, slotted headstock with rosewood plate and ivory ABS binding.
More important than this guitar’s vintage appeal is its wood configuration which features a solid mahogany top with forward shifted scalloped x-bracing system. The solid mahogany top gives this parlor guitar a warm tone with more emphasis on the lower mids, while the forward shifted braces allow for improved resonance that result in a more open sound. This combination makes the AP66SB ideal for blues, fingerstyle and other classic music styles, while still being able to handle modern musical styles to some extent.
Working in conjunction with the special bracing system is the bi-level bridge with real bone nut, ensuring good connection between the strings, nut, bridge and the body. The resulting sound is described by many as being more open and powerful, with the highs and lows equally represented.

The neck of this parlor guitar is crafted from mahogany which joins the body at the 12th fret following traditional designs. You can expect this guitar to be easy to play with its shorter scale length of 24″, while the 1.75″ nutwidth makes switching between instruments easier because of the familiar string spacing. Also following classic parlor guitar designs, the fingerboard is made from rosewood, aesthetically and sonically matched with the rosewood headstock plate and rosewood bridge.
Rounding up the guitar’s features are more vintage style hardware that include diecast tuners, and synthetic bone bridge pins. For something priced at just under $360, the Alvarez AP66SB comes with impressive features that you won’t usually find in its price range. If you are looking for a standout looking parlor guitar that comes with a modest price tag, you should check out the Alvarez AP66SB.
